Hand-Book of The Underwriters Bureau of New England
This book, published in 1896, was intended to be carried by fire inspectors for the member companies as well as underwriters. It’s filled with very nice figures and illustrations that were used as a guide for those going into industrial areas. They helped them understand the mechanics behind sprinkler systems in use as well as other fire prevention methods that could be employed.
The members of the Underwriters Bureau of New England are listed in the front of the book. They include: Phenix Insurance Company, Queen Insurance Company, National Fire Insurance Company, New Hampshire Fire Insurance Company, German-American Insurance Company, Phoenix Insurance Company, Springfield Fire and Marine Insurance Company, Royal Insurance Company, Liverpool & London & Globe Insurance Company, Aetna Insurance Company (Hartford), Scottish Union and National Insurance Company, Home Insurance Company, and The North British & Mercantile Insurance Company.
It is a great addition to our historical fire collection, and would be of interest to general fire historians as well as insurance professionals.
