The Insurance Library Association of Boston Reports of 1888-1900

The Insurance Library Association of Boston Reports of 1888-1900

These are two of twenty-five copies of the reports that were printed on hand-made paper back in 1901. The reports are stamped no. 1 and no. 11. The Preface to the reports starts: “The close of the century bringing, as it does, a strong tendency to look at the past as well as the future makes it a most fitting time to gather, in as complete and compact a form as possible, all the details of an organization or institution which are embodied in the annual reports.”

While there were only 25 hand made copies of the reports created, the library published almost 500 reports and sent them to the membership, the founding companies, insurance organizations and to every insurance paper they could. This collection of annual reports from the insurance library was intended to help provide a more full picture of the insurance industry in Massachusetts.

The book also has a reproduction of the “Bonner map of Boston” the first map of Boston to provide street names as well as some facsimiles of various historical insurance policies. The books are in fair condition, one of them has slightly more obvious damage, but they both need the covers reinforced as well as some additional care to restore them to their original state. The cost to adopt either one of the books is $150 each or you could adopt both of them for $300. To adopt this book please contact Meagan Stefanow at
