Services
Our
collection and services are available at no charge to consumers, including
students, and we are happy to help clarify what might sometimes seem to be a
confusing maze to anyone not working in the business.
We are regularly called upon to trace insurance companies no longer operating
under a prior name, and to help consumers make choices about their insurers
through the use of financial strength ratings. We can also
direct people how to retrieve and understand
the company-by-company complaint information
recorded by and available through the National Association of Insurance
Commissioners.
We
receive no public funds, and depend upon those in the insurance community and
related fields to support us through memberships so that our doors can remain
open to all. If you contemplate using us for business purposes, please
read more about
membership privileges.
Our Association offers a wide variety of
research services and materials to the membership. The collection includes
contemporary and historical versions of:
-
Books,
pamphlets, articles and reference materials in all areas of the insurance
industry
-
Insurance
reports, directories, loose leaf services and lexicons
-
Insurance
laws, treatises, and financial rating services
-
Rating
and form manuals
-
More
than 350 insurance trade journals which are indexed in our own database by
subject, person, and company and may be searched by key word or phrase
PLEASE
NOTE: At the present time, our resources
are not available electronically (such access is contemplated in the future). We are quick to
respond to inquiries that are faxed (617) 723-8524 or Email to one of the

The Saval Insurance Education Center of the
Insurance Library Association of Boston offers a wide variety of courses,
building on an insurance education tradition begun in 1890. Courses include
those for agent and broker pre-licensing preparation and many for national
designation programs such as the Program in General Insurance and the Chartered
Property & Casualty Underwriter, Associate in Risk Management, Associate in
Claims, Associate in Reinsurance, and Associate in Fidelity & Surety Bonding
programs. A wide selection of "short courses" and seminars qualify, as do the
designation programs, for continuing education credits for licensed agents and
brokers.
A capital campaign completed by the Trustees in
1995 made possible extensive renovations to our building at 156 State Street in
downtown Boston, and many members enjoy browsing and meeting their friends and
colleagues here.
