2025 Nancy Z. Bender Award – Insurance Library

Award Criteria

The Nancy Z. Bender Award honors an individual who has demonstrated outstanding customer or community service. Anyone working in an insurance-related community that the Library serves is eligible to be nominated, including employees of insurers, brokers and agents, risk managers, and law firms. We want to know who has gone above and beyond when dealing with clients or helping in the community.

Award History

The Nancy Z. Bender Award was established in 2020 through the creation by two generous donors of an endowed fund to honor annually an individual who has demonstrated outstanding customer or community service as exemplified by Nancy Z. Bender, a former Library trustee and the 2019 recipient of the Library’s Insurance Professional of the Year Award.

A trailblazer and successful business leader, Nancy just did what came naturally to her. But what came naturally to her was delivering a level of customer service that consistently exceeded expectations. Nancy strove to understand her clients’ needs and to do what was necessary to ensure they were met. Combined with a strong worth ethic and commitment to technical mastery, that natural inclination resulted in Nancy’s career being a timeless model for success.

At a time when novel innovations and InsurTech are receiving much attention, Nancy’s career is a reminder that insurance always has been, and to a large extent always will be, a people business, where making and nurturing personal connections is an end to itself and not merely a means to achieving another goal.
