What We Are

The Insurance Library Association of Boston is a nonprofit organization founded in 1887. It is the country’s first, and only remaining, independent library dedicated solely to the subject of insurance. The Library has a unique collection of print and digital insurance-related resources, including treatises, periodicals, hard-to-find policy forms, a rare collection of A.M. Best Reports going back to 1900, and many insurance artifacts and memorabilia.

But we are much more than just a library.

We offer an array of virtual and in-person education programs, including highly regarded CE-approved webinars, a popular Webinar Sponsorship program were members can provide employees or producers with cost-effective CE classes, seminars, custom virtual or on-site courses for clients–with topics ranging from an introductory level to more specialized areas of insurance–collaborations with local and national organizations, and virtual Lunch & Learns and book Launch & Learns.

We also offer networking and engagement events to members and the public, including our Insurance Professional of the Year Award Gala, a biennial Scavenger Hunt, the Nancy Z. Bender Award for customer and community service, a popular Summer Program for member organization interns and early career professionals, a holiday open house, and other events. Our credentialed, experienced research librarian provides excellent research services regarding insurance policy forms and coverages, company and policy history, and topical searches.
